Forgeworld Open Day 2015

So yesterday was the Forgeworld Open Day, and me and a few friends attended and I took plenty of pictures. A lot of the new and upcoming releases will have been shared already, indeed I saw people getting pictures of them online within an hour of going in to the event. I was much more interested in enjoying my day there but I still took a few pictures of new stuff, most of them are from the miniatures hall though which was simply spectacular.

I won't have time to label each picture like I usually do, so I'll just do them in batches. You can click to enlarge and scroll through them. First up, the new stuff in case anybody hadn't seen these bits already. Perturabo, Primarch of the Iron Warriors, who I myself picked up on the day. A New Tau Supremacy suit standing twice as high as a Riptide. Zhardu, who was out on the day, and Eidolon, who will be coming soon. Also on display were Raven Guard snipers, upgrade packs for Dark Angels, Blood Angels and White Scars, new vehicles and a new Mechanicum book amongst other things.

Next up here's a quick picture of what I bought, but more on that in a later post following construction / painting of the series.

Now onto the displays. I didn't visit the miniatures hall last week, but this time it completely blew me away. Even the tables outside the door were great. There's Angron leading a World Eaters charge, and a scene from Calth which I first saw at Warhammer Fest last year. It's nice to see all the displays in the same place now. Also on display outside was a table covered with the new Warlord titans, but I don't know if that one is permanent.

Inside, the first thing you see is a cabinet full of titans and other impressive sculpts. This one in particular is one of my favorites and one I keep meaning to purchase at some point. The Gargantuan Squiggoth. Speaking of Orks, next to that display was another battle scene, this time with Crimson Fists and Greenskins.

The next display, Death Korps of Kreig in their winter trenches.

Followed by this one, probably one of the most impressive of the lot. Necrons and Blood Angels battling over a necron tomb, complete with a Monolith flux arc hitting a Stormraven in mid flight. But that was not the only great thing about it, the attention to detail all over the board was great. The flame effect and explosions looked awesome too as did all the dynamic poses.

Next up, black hawk down. Or rather Valkyrie down in Ork town. Again, so much detail.

This next one was my ultimate favourite, although it was far from the biggest board I would see. I think a combination of the glowing lava and backdrop, plus the sheer number of Nids made it really stand out. The Eldar Titans really added to it, as did the aerial combat on the far right, as well as all the little details you really had to look for, like the Wraithlord battling the leaping Hormagaunt, the Lictors and the Eldar Rangers.

Next up, the big one. I thought they were big before but this one was unreal. I've never felt quite like I was in the middle of a miniature battle like that before, no matter how involved you get with a game. The board stretched the entire span of a room, with one end so high you had to climb stairs to go around it. Ultramarines and Khorne with all their Daemons, the battle was spectacular. The only thing keeping it from the top spot for me was the lights in the room, which constantly dimmed red and blue, making photos harder although in some cases, like the Helldrake near the end, look quite cool. The sheer number of miniatures was breathtaking.

So after following the big display upstairs we were in the upstairs hall, where the displays continued. As well as cabinet after cabinet of citadel miniatures, there were even more display boards. First up an imperial guard regiment on the move.

Next up the Space Wolves and Nids. Still a great board but ironic to think this used to be the big display last time I visited. Now it was one of the smallest.

Then there was Isstvan. No Salamanders unfortunately, they decided to focus on just the part of the dropsite massacre where the Iron Hands and Emperors Children clashed. It's a really impressive board, with Fulgrim and Ferrus dueling atop a cliff in the very centre. Unfortunately this made it really hard to get a clear shot of them without taking a picture of everything behind as the display was in a 360 glass cabinet. Still one of the most impressive though due to the contrast in purple and black.

Next up wad the fantasy stuff, starting with a really cool warhost of Nurgle. The rotting walls and castle really added to it and made this into one of the best.

Skaven and Dwarfs in an underground tunnel fight, there's nothing about this one I didn't like.

Finally there was an Orc siege on an Empire City. Probably the biggest fantasy display and just like the large 40k ones, the sheer amount of models really made it something special. The boar riders charging in and the siege towers loaded up with Orcs were really cool. Well done GW, the Warhammer World hall of miniatures is now more impressive than I ever thought possible and is really inspiring. I'll be sure to visit it again soon.
